The Irish National Heritage Park is a unique Heritage experience that brings to life over 9000 years of Irish History. Explore the 35 acres of woodland and see the historic buildings and settlements that show how the early Irish settlers lived. The park has 16 reconstructed sites for you to see and learn about from the Dolmen to the Fulacht Fiadh and the Crannog to the Viking ship. Take a journey through pre-historic Ireland, early Christian Ireland and the age of invasion while enjoying spectacular views across the River Slaney estuary.
The Irish National Heritage Park brings Irish history to life with character led tours and are are suitable for families, groups, individuals and school tours. You can also explore the park at your own pace on a self-guided tour. There are three themed heritage tours available – Pre-Historic Ireland, Early Christian Ireland and the Age of Invasion – which together cover over 9000 years of Irish history! Each tour takes you on an unforgettable journey through the past. Step in and explore replicas of historic sites, including a castle, crannóg, Viking house, monastery, and ringfort.

Birds of Prey – The falcony centre is home to some of the fiercest and fastest predators on the planet as well as the cutest owls and dazzling McCaws. The falcony centre is on the Hill of Carraig where Anglo Normans kept hunting birds. The experience allows you to handle first-hand the agility, speed and precision of the ancient birds. This is your opportunity to fly your own bird from your arm, call it back and observe the hawk’s amazing predatory skill with the resident falconer Jim O’Connor. This activity is suitable for children and adults and is open to individuals and groups.
Daily Life in the 10th Century – You will jump right into the life of Vikings in this one hour experience; you’ll wear their clothing and armour, think and breathe like one of the first Vikings and even get to strike Viking coins before marching to the viking boat yard for a photo opportunity. You will also get to learn about their buildings, traditions and customs while strolling through the landscape.
Fancy a bite to eat? The restaurant and café is open from 9:30am daily with a hearty breakfast menu followed by a range of lunchtime meals suitable for all palates and budgets. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and is situated in the visitor centre building overlooking the spectacular views of the Crannog. There are also picnic tables provided at the front of the building should you wish to bring your own snacks.
